Phoenix (AZ Family) — Election Day 2024 is nearly a month away. If you plan to vote in Maricopa County, there are important deadlines coming up that you should know about.
From October 7th (Monday) Today is the last day to register to vote. Here’s what you need to know about voter registration deadlines.
From October 9th (Wednesday) Early voting forms have been mailed.
From October 25th (Friday) Last day to request early voting.
October 29th (Tuesday) ~ The Recorder’s Office suggests mailing in your ballot by this date to ensure your ballot is received in time.
From November 5th (Tuesday) election day.
Arizona families toured county counting centers this week, with preparations well underway for voting centers to open next week. Election officials are preparing tally sheets to be used when voting in person. Ballots will be stored in tamper-proof, locked boxes with stickers and escorted by security back to the counting center at the end of the day, county officials said.
When it comes to registering to vote, many people wait until the last moment, said Taylor Kinnapp of the Recorder’s Office. About 40,000 people registered to vote in the county in September, she said.
“For some people, that’s really concerning,” Kinnup said. “Last month we saw a huge increase in voters, which often happens when it comes to elections. This is a fairly cyclical increase.”
There are approximately 2.5 million registered voters in Maricopa County, according to the county recorder’s office. About 1.9 million people are on active early voting lists. If you’re on that list, Kinup says you have options.
“You can return it by mail. You can drop it off in a ballot drop box,” she said. “You can go vote in person on that ballot, or you can ignore mail-in voting altogether and go vote in person on Election Day.”
