‘Revise the 2026 Census’: Trump and DeSantis Seek to Exclude Illegal Immigrants from Population Count

Trump and DeSantis Push for Census Redo

Former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have called for a re-evaluation of the U.S. census ahead of the 2026 midterm elections during a recent news conference.

The current Census Bureau includes undocumented immigrants in its counts, which has implications for congressional representation. When asked about a proposal that would instruct the Bureau to modify its approach, both Trump and DeSantis expressed their support for limiting counts to citizens.

Trump remarked, “I’ll speak for both of us. We love it. I know everything about it… Ron loves it, I love it, and [Homeland Security Secretary] Christie [Noem] does too. It’s essential to get this right. They include anyone in your state.”

DeSantis followed up, suggesting, “If California had a fair census, we would lose five seats. I really hope we’ll redo the 2026 census. My Congress will rezone those lines.”

Trump was optimistic about the legislation’s future, stating, “I think it will work very well… it’s captivating the country. Everyone wants it. It’s going to pass, and we’re going to be very happy.”

Meanwhile, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia shared her plans for a related bill on social media. She mentioned that her legislation would require the U.S. Census Bureau to conduct a new census focusing strictly on U.S. citizens.

“My bill mandates that when the census is redone, we include questions on citizenship and count only U.S. citizens,” she explained. “Once completed, the bill will direct states to rezone based solely on this citizen population.”
