Ron DeSantis Suspends Presidential Campaign, Endorses Trump

Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Sunday that he is suspending his presidential campaign and supporting former President Donald Trump as the 2024 Republican candidate.

DeSantis made the announcement in a video posted to Twitter with the caption, “Success is not final and failure is not fatal. What matters is the courage to continue.” In the video, he explained his decision to drop out and said Trump is the best candidate to take on President Joe Biden.

“It is clear that a large majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance. I see them using the law to attack him at every turn. I have some disagreements with Donald Trump, such as the coronavirus pandemic and the elevation of Anthony Fauci, but Trump is “Better than Joe Biden. That's clear,” he said in the video.

“I signed a pledge to support the Republican candidate, and I intend to honor that pledge. What I'm supporting him with is the old guard of the Republican Party, represented by Nikki Haley. , because we cannot go back to a repackaged version of warmed-up corporatism,” he added.

New Hampshire's primary is on Tuesday. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley remains in the race.

Ms. Haley congratulated Mr. DeSantis during his campaign in New Hampshire.

“He ran a great race and was a good governor. We wish him the best. That being said, there are currently only one man and one woman left. There are 14 people in this race. We're in, we've got a bunch of guys. Everyone is out except this guy. And this becomes, “What do you want?” Do you want more of the same, or do you want something new?”

Donald Trump expected DeSantis to end his campaign after learning he would cancel media appearances.

“That's a big deal. He's going to cancel everything,” President Trump said in a Saturday interview with FOX News' Bret Bayer. “My view is that he's probably going to resign because history tells us this usually doesn't bode well for a campaign. Look, he did very poorly, but he did a lot better than Nikki. I think he's out there. I don't see a path. I don't see a path for her.''
