“The Sopranos” actress Drea de Matteo claimed on Fox News Monday that Hollywood is full of “quiet” Trump supporters and questioned whether actors rooting for President Joe Biden are being paid to do so.
Mateo appeared on “Jesse Watters Primetime” to discuss the recent wave of Hollywood stars who have endorsed Biden in the upcoming election. After playing a montage of actors, Fox host Jesse Watters asked Mateo if there were any supporters of former President Donald Trump among the Democratic strongholds of the entertainment industry. “First of all, hello. And I think there's a lot. I think there's a lot. That was a tough intro to watch. Sorry,” Matteo laughed.
“Was that Jack Black's leg?” Watters teased.
“No, I'm Italian. You're talking about Fauci, you're talking about De Niro. I'm embarrassed by my peers right now. I don't know what I'm doing here. Anyway, yeah, there are a lot of quiet Trump supporters, a lot of Kennedy supporters. And wow, I wonder how much actors were paid to endorse Biden at this point. I wonder if De Niro was paid a location fee, because he had to go all the way to court for that,” Matteo said.
“Is that how it works? Are you guys being paid? So instead of handing over cash like Bob Menedez did or sneaking in some gold bars, can you just make an implicit deal like, 'We'll get you your next role or we'll get you a book deal,' or is it like a performance fee?” Watters asked.
“I don't know. I don't really operate within that industry. I never have. First of all, on The Sopranos, we were outcasts. We were critically acclaimed, but we were still outcasts. So I'm still an outcast, and here I am. They're going to take me out into the woods and shoot me for not supporting Biden,” Matteo joked.
As November approaches, a variety of celebrities have come forward in the last month to rally support for the president online and at fundraisers. Biden recently held a fundraiser in Hollywood, where entertainers including George Clooney and Julia Roberts helped raise more than $30 million for the president. according to To the Associated Press.
While Hollywood is known for leaning toward Biden, Trump has also begun raising money from other Democratic strongholds, including from Silicon Valley investors. Just this month, Craft Ventures co-founder David Sachs hosted a fundraiser for the former president in San Francisco that raised $12 million, which Sachs described as “a total love fest.”
