‘The Map Is Not Great’: Chris Cillizza Says Even If Trump Tariffs Massively ‘Backfire,’ Dems’ Senate Hopes Are Slim

Former CNN political analyst Chris Chiliza said Friday that even if President Donald Trump’s tariffs cause serious damage, Democrats have a disastrous odds of seizing the Senate in 2026.

US stocks plummeted Thursday and Friday after Trump announced a global tariff slate on Wednesday. Viewers asked him to Chiliza Live stream “Whether or not customs duties are backfir[ing] As bad as some economists say Democrats might offer the opportunity to win the Senate, former CNN analysts explained why it’s unlikely to happen. “JD Vance is Vice President and Vice President of Senate Blake’s Blake Bond, so if you had Democrats, you could have a clear majority. You could have 51 seats. There are 22 Democrats. “The only one in the state is that there are only one Democrats. [former Vice President] Kamala Harris Wong is in Susan Collins, Maine, and she will be a major target. The problem is like you have to fish in a water body that isn’t very friendly to the party. ”

“Like an example, North Carolina. Tom Tillis is running. I think former Democratic governor Roy Cooper will probably run, so I know it’s a real race. So I think it’s a race. “Then it starts to become a demon. Remember, they need four people. So let’s assume they won’t lose themselves.”

Cillizza said even if Democrats were able to secure Maine and North Carolina, they still don’t have a strong chance to win a majority.

“I think the next one will be in Ohio. The senator John Husted is appointed. Ohio is in tough conditions. Maybe it’s three. “I’m going alphabetical order: Alaska, Alabama, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, Wyhom.

“So Iowa is probably Florida’s best plan. It’s not just the map for them. It’s not the Democrats,” concluded Cillizza. “And that can I think of the way?

Cillizza previously argued that Democrats are facing a difficult fight to regain control of the Senate, following the announcement in March by Democrats, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who said they would not seek re-election. Her announcement follows a similar announcement by Gary Peters of Michigan and Tina Smith of Minnesota.

“Even if we don’t see another retirement on the Democrats’ side, I think these three retirements already crush the hopes of Democrats trying to get the Senate back in 2026,” Cillizza said at the time.
