‘This Could Be The Toughest Election’: MSNBC Panel Sounds Alarm On How Hard It Will Be For Harris To Beat Trump

The “Morning Joe” panel on Friday warned how difficult it will be for Vice President Kamala Harris to beat former President Donald Trump in the November election.

Trump currently leads Harris by 0.1 percentage points in key battleground states. According to When compared to the Real Clear Polling (RCP) average, Trump's vote share dropped from 1.5% to 1.6%. MSNBC hosts Jonathan Lemire and Joe Scarborough, as well as former MSNBC host Chris Matthews, have said the election is likely to be extremely close, and noted that Trump has historically outperformed polls predictably. “A top super PAC with ties to the Harris campaign told reporters that its internal polling is a bit more disappointing than the public polling, and other Democratic pollsters I've spoken to over the past few days have said the same thing,” Lemire said. “They say the battleground states are virtually even. Right now, many public polls have Harris leading by a few points, often within the margin of error. They're suggesting it's a bit closer than that.”

“And as we all know, polls have been bad over the last few election cycles, favoring Republicans on Election Day. Republicans are underrepresented in the polls, so they do well on Election Day,” he continued. “Joe Biden was polling a few points higher than he was four years ago, when he ultimately won.”

Lemire also said Democrats were “feeling really good” after the Democratic National Convention.

“They feel like they have the wind at their back, but this race will probably be decided by a small margin, despite how weak Trump seems to be at the moment, so there's still a lot of work to be done,” he continued.

“It's going to be close. Chris Matthews, I recall the RealClearPolitics average for Michigan leading up to Election Day 2020 was Biden plus nine. There were polls in Wisconsin that had Biden winning by double digits,” Scarborough said. “Obviously, everybody thought Hillary Clinton was going to win. I spoke to a pollster after the exit polls at 6:30, 6:45, and he was saying it's about winning six or seven battleground states, and everything's looking good for us tonight. So Democrats have a reason to be scared. Like everyone says, they have a reason to play like they're down by three points in the fourth quarter, down by a field goal, and they can run down the field and win.”

Harris leads Trump by just 2 percentage points Michigan At 1% WisconsinAccording to the RCP average.

“You have to look at states like North Carolina, Arizona and of course Georgia. They may have a chance in Georgia because they have low minority turnout, but they may not get close in Pennsylvania and they may not win North Carolina,” Matthews said. “This could be a close win. This could be the toughest election, because if Pennsylvania doesn't go their way and North Carolina doesn't go their way, it's tough, really tough.”
