Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Lee Zeldin announced Monday that the agency-themed museum, established by the Biden administration, will be closing.
Washington, DC, Museum – Officially known National Museum of Environment and Education Centre – It was established under the Biden administration in May 2024. Michael Regan, then EPA administrator, welcomed it as a facility that “records our country’s work in protecting public health and the environment.” Ribbon Cut Ceremony.
Now, President Donald Trump’s EPA has closed the museum less than a year after its grand opening, with Zeldin citing unnecessary costs for politicized content, with fewer taxpayers, visitors and fewer visitors.
“I stand inside this museum now, which was built and curated by the Biden administration for $4 million in taxpayer dollars,” Zeldin said. “The environmental justice and climate change costs at this shrine to fill the apartment size, as if the price wasn’t enough for this, cost American taxpayers $600,000 each year. The museum, located at EPA headquarters, costs around $4 million to build about $4 million to taxpayers and $600,000 a year. The centre attracted a total of less than 2,000 outside visitors between May 2024 and February 2025.
According to the Trump EPA, admission to the museum was free for months when it was open to the public, as taxpayers spend around $315 per outside visitor. Examples of museum estimated annual operating costs include approximately $123,000 for landscaping, an additional $123,000 for utilities and an additional $54,000 for artifact storage.
Additionally, the Biden administration appears to have politicized museum exhibits, and according to the Trump EPA, it appears to support climate change and “environmental justice.” Additionally, the museum essentially ignores covering the period from 2014 to January 2021, and also promotes the achievements of the EPA under a Democratic administration rather than a Republican administration.
“It’s ironic about the EPA wasting money on museums when it’s supposed to focus on toxic waste,” Rod Law, communications director at the Institute of Functional Government, said in a statement. “Sadly, special interests promote environmental activities and the special bureaucracy of the EPA in the Biden administration was the unfortunate outcome of such policies. Zeldin, the administrator, helped to protect taxpayers and return the EPA to its legal mission to protect the environment, past environmental obstacles and potential self-uc self-uc.
The museum’s closure is the latest step the Trump EPA has taken since January to bring back the Biden EPA agenda. So far, the Trump EPA has now ended billions of dollars for nonprofits politically connected with Biden-era grants.
