Former President Donald Trump hosted a press conference Wednesday from inside a garbage truck in Green Bay, Wisconsin, responding to President Joe Biden’s recent “trash” attacks.
In a Zoom call with Voto Latino on Tuesday, Biden responded to comments made by comedian Hinchcliffe at Trump’s rally, calling Trump’s supporters “trash.” Wearing a bright safety vest, the former president answered a variety of questions from reporters gathered around the truck.
“I think 250 million people in this country are going to be very happy because we’re going to take our country back,” Trump told reporters. “We are a country in decline, in very deep decline, and we are going to take this country back.”
During the press conference, President Trump also praised the contributions of those he called America’s “geniuses,” specifically mentioning billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. “Elon is a great guy. He’s one of our geniuses and we have to protect geniuses. We have to take care of geniuses,” Trump added. President Trump also used the opportunity to reaffirm his support for Puerto Rico.
“I love Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico loves me. I don’t know. I don’t know anything about comedians. I just love Puerto Rico. No one has done more for Puerto Rico than me. I took care of them when they had a big hurricane and no one gets along better with Puerto Rico and Puerto Ricans than I do.They love me and I love them too. I love you,” Trump continued.
President Trump also addressed a question regarding comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s comments about Puerto Rico.
“I don’t know anything about the comedian. I don’t know who he is, I’ve never seen him. I heard he made a statement, but that’s just what he said. He’s a comedian. What can I say? I don’t know anything about him. I don’t know why he’s there,” Trump said.
After receiving considerable backlash for his comments, Biden claimed on X that his comments were targeted at the “rhetoric” used by Hinchcliffe, not at Trump supporters themselves.
