Trump Is More Liked by Republicans Than Any Recent GOP President, Says Harry Enten

Trump’s Popularity Among Republican Voters

CNN’s senior data reporter Harry Enten remarked on Tuesday that President Donald Trump appears to be “more loved” by party voters than any Republican president in recent history.

According to data shared by Enten, Trump achieved a 63% approval rating among Republican voters just five months after the start of his second term. This surpasses the approval ratings of past Republican presidents, including Ronald Reagan, who never reached above a 60% rating by that time.

“It’s quite remarkable,” Enten noted. “If you look back over the past three decades, no Republican presidents have had such strong approval rates after five months in office. For instance, George H.W. Bush garnered only 46%, while George W. Bush had 59%. Trump had 53% during his first term, but now he stands at 63%. He even outperformed Reagan, who saw a significant boost in approval following his assassination attempt.”

“This shows that Trump’s support among Republicans is historically strong,” he added.

Looking back at Reagan, his approval ratings started at 60% just a few months after he faced an assassination attempt in July 1981.

Currently, Trump is actively campaigning for the 2024 elections, focusing primarily on appealing to Republican voters. Many have observed his administration’s policies on immigration, particularly the large-scale deportation of illegal immigrants, leading to significant decreases in border encounters. In fact, it was noted that illegal border crossings dropped to record low numbers.

Data released shortly after the administration took office highlighted a 99% drop in immigrant encounters, with daily encounters decreasing by 93% and “gotaway” encounters also declining by 95%. Furthermore, Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) ramped up its operations, making more than 100,000 arrests since Trump’s second term began.

On the economic front, the consumer price index (CPI) indicated a 2.3% rise from April 2024 to April 2025, but on May 30th, inflation fell after four years of increases. Meanwhile, the Senate is currently reviewing Trump’s “big beautiful bill.”

Enten also pointed out that Trump-endorsed candidates have seen success in approximately 95% of major races. “In the Republican primaries, Trump is the clear frontrunner,” Enten stated. “His support is crucial within the GOP.”

Trump has also issued challenges to members of Congress regarding the “big beautiful bill,” particularly targeting Representatives Thomas Massey and Warren Davidson, as well as Senator Tom Tillis, who recently announced his retirement after facing pressure from Trump.
