The topic of former President Donald Trump occupied nearly 20 minutes of primetime interviews with Republican Florida Governor and Presidential Candidate Ron DeSantis and CNN’s Jake Tupper.
The governor of Florida had an exclusive interview with Tupper about the 2024 election and the high-profile challenges facing the country. CNN abruptly interrupted the interview with no warning, reporting that Trump’s attorney and special counsel Jack Smith had attended a hearing in Fort Pierce, Fla., to schedule a trial.
The segment focused on hearing details, including federal district judge Eileen Cannon, who said the December trial was premature. CNN’s senior legal correspondent Paula Reed, who attended the court, said the defense believes it will finish reviewing the surveillance footage and related documents in November.

Regarding Ukraine, Mr DeSantis told Mr Tapper that the US position should be to maintain peace in Europe without engaging in any “aggression”, according to CNN. DeSantis then insisted on helping Taiwan to strengthen it against possible Chinese aggression.
DeSantis said he had the resources to take on Trump after campaign finance reports revealed the former campaign had raised $20 million in a second-quarter fundraiser. That number is more than all other candidates except Trump, who raised $35 million in campaign funding in the second quarter.
Tupper then pressed DeSantis to have an abortion after the governor signed a six-week abortion ban on April 12. DeSantis declined to answer whether a similar ban would be passed at the federal level if the desk was brought into the Oval Office.
Trump said the six-week suspension was “too harsh” but, like DeSantis, did not say whether he would pass the six-week suspension.
