Trump terminates former Vice President Harris’ Secret Service protection ahead of its early extension by Biden.

Trump Revokes Harris’ Secret Service Protections

Washington – President Trump has decided to end the Secret Service protections for former Vice President Kamala Harris sooner than expected, an official from the Trump administration revealed on Friday.

Typically, a former vice president receives federal security for six months after leaving office, while a former president retains protection for life. However, sources indicated that President Biden had signed an order extending Harris’ security at her request, a move that was kept under wraps.

In the previous year’s election, Trump defeated Harris, who was the Democratic candidate.

Interestingly, Harris is now preparing for a book tour for her memoir titled “107 Days.” This follows her brief stint as the Democratic nominee last summer after Biden withdrew from the race. The tour will include 15 stops, featuring international visits to places like London and Toronto. Her book is set for release on September 23rd, just before the tour kicks off.

White House officials, speaking anonymously, noted that recent threat assessments concerning Harris revealed no significant risks to her safety, suggesting that her Secret Service protection should return to the standard six-month duration for former vice presidents.

Former Vice President Mike Pence did not extend his Secret Service detail beyond six months during his term.

While it’s not unusual for protections to be prolonged past the typical timeframe, Trump’s actions are notable for their timing and the particular individual affected.

Throughout his second term, Trump has been known to deny security details to those he viewed unfavorably, including his former national security adviser, John Bolton, and certain family members of President Biden.

This revocation of Harris’ security is likely to concern security experts who stress the importance of uninterrupted protection, given the current polarized environment.

A senior official from the Trump administration confirmed that an administrative memorandum was issued to the Department of Homeland Security, which will terminate Harris’ security measures. These protections, originally extended by the Biden administration, were set to conclude in July 2026, but will now end on Monday.

Harris resides in the Los Angeles area, and local Democrat Mayor Karen Bass criticized Trump’s decision as “another act of revenge” that could jeopardize Harris’ safety. Bass indicated plans to collaborate with California Governor Gavin Newsom to ensure Harris’s protection.

Despite her loss in the previous election, Harris is viewed as a possible contender for the 2028 presidential race and has already announced she will not run for California governor in 2026. Her political background includes serving as a senator, California Attorney General, and San Francisco District Attorney.

The political climate last year was particularly tense, with Trump experiencing two assassination attempts and the Secret Service playing a critical role in safeguarding the current president. Questions also linger about the agency’s preparedness following a shooting incident during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.President Trump had previously chosen an agent who responded to that situation to take charge of the agency.

Reports of the cancellation of Harris’ security first emerged from CNN.
