President Trump visits Arizona. discuss border security
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) — Former President Donald Trump proposed 10,000 additional jobs Sunday. border patrol agent He gave them $10,000 in retention and contract bonuses after he thwarted a bipartisan bill earlier this year that would have provided funding for more border agents.
Trump made his promise during the rally. Prescott Valley, Arizonalocated approximately 420 miles north of the Mexican border. He accepted an endorsement from the National Border Patrol Council, a longtime Trump supporter who backed him during the past two campaigns.
President Trump has made illegal immigration a focus of his campaign, accusing his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, of a record surge in unauthorized crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border. He has frequently denounced people who enter the United States illegally as invaders and criminals, and has vowed to launch the largest deportation operation in U.S. history if reelected.
President Trump said, “We will rescue Arizona and all the towns that were invaded.” “All she had to do was close the borders.”
He ran afoul of unions earlier this year when he persuaded Republicans to kill a bipartisan immigration bill that included additional border funding. The bill would fund 1,500 U.S. Customs and Border Protection employees, including Border Patrol agents, the White House said.
Trump said at the time that he didn’t want to give Democrats political victories on his key issues. President Trump called the bill a “terrible bill” at the rally.
Mr. Trump and his allies refer to Ms. Harris as the “border czar,” but she has never held that title. President Joe Biden asked Harris early in his administration to study the “root causes” of migration from Central America.
Labor union president Paul Perez, standing next to Trump on stage with his staff, said: “If we allow border czar Harris to win the election, every city and every community in this great country will go to hell.” It will fall,” he said.
President Trump has vowed to complete the border wall when he returns to the White House. He routinely touts that the number of border crossings in Biden’s first three years in office was relatively low and far higher. The railroad crossing has now returned to level ground. That’s on par with or below levels seen during most of Trump’s presidency.
Trump’s presidency was also marked by a fight to crack down on illegal border crossings before the COVID-19 pandemic led to border closures. Under the Trump administration, Border Patrol agents separated migrant children from their parents, one of several enforcement programs targeted by the Trump administration against undocumented immigrants.
