Tuberville: ‘I REFUSE to cooperate with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations’ after Trump conviction

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) has vowed to join some of his Senate colleagues in blocking certain legislative priorities and judicial nominees in the wake of the conviction of former President Donald Trump.

A New York jury on Thursday found Donald Trump guilty of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, marking the first time in American history that a former president has been convicted of a crime.

Senator Tuberville signed a pledge saying, “The White House has made a mockery of the rule of law and fundamentally changed our politics in an un-American way. As the Senate Republican Conference, we will not aid and abet the White House's efforts to divide our country.”

“To that end, we will 1) not approve any appropriations bills that increase this Administration's non-security related budget or fund partisan legislative fights; 2) not vote to confirm this Administration's political and judicial appointees; and 3) not allow the rapid consideration and passage of any Democratic bills or mandates that do not directly relate to the safety of the American people,” the pledge continued.

Taberville posted a sworn statement on X, claiming:In response to partisan politics [White House]My colleagues and I refuse to cooperate with any legislative priorities or nominations that are part of the Democratic Party's agenda to divide our country.”

The senator also released a full statement calling the verdict a “political witch hunt.”

“This is a very dark day in American history,” Tuberville said. “This 'trial' has been a political witch hunt from the beginning. The fact that the Biden campaign held a press conference outside the courtroom says all that is needed.”

“Liberal activist Alvin Bragg and Judge Marchan, a Biden donor, shared the common goal of putting President Trump in prison. Even taking into account the biased jury, the gag order issued solely to silence President Trump, the prosecutor's failure to outline the crimes underlying the charges, and the lack of a unanimous verdict necessary for a conviction, this trial was a complete joke and a massive misuse of taxpayer money.”

“This is pure election interference and the American people will see through it. There can be no two-tiered justice system. Unless we return to a Constitution that guarantees every American the right to freedom of speech and a fair trial by an impartial jury, we will be no different to Venezuela or Communist China.”

President Trump has been ordered to appear in court again on July 11 to be sentenced.
