The heroic actions of the Coast Guard were captured on video Sunday as they bravely rescued five people and their dog during an operation in South Carolina.

A rescue took place off the coast of South Carolina, with the U.S. Coast Guard safely escorting five people and their dog from a boat that ran aground on Fripp Island. The incident happened around 2 p.m. when the 23-foot-long boat got stuck on rocks on the barrier island, police said. press releaseThe Coast Guard deployed an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Savannah.

The crew performed a complex rescue operation, lowering team members and stretchers to the stranded boaters and ultimately hoisting everyone and their pets to safety. Due to the numbers and difficult conditions, the operation took multiple trips to complete. The pilot, Maj. Karl Luksoy, praised the team for meticulously managing the aircraft's weight. “Due to the large number of crew members, this was a fairly complex deployment that required multiple trips to the distressed vessel,” Lukhoj said, with the press release adding: “Our crew managed the aircraft's weight and power margins to successfully execute the hoisting maneuver. Due to the incredible tidal ranges in the Lowcountry region, we encourage all mariners to check tides and currents before venturing out to sea.”

During the water rescue, a two-person airboat team from Beaufort County Marine Rescue contributed to the rescue effort, helping ensure everyone on board was safely evacuated. The rescued individuals and their dog were then flown to Beaufort Executive Airport, where no injuries were reported, the news release stated. After the successful rescue, both the stranded boat and the airboat were recovered by Marine Rescue.
