With less than a week until Election Day, Democratic U.S. Representative and Senate candidate Ruben Gallego met with voters in Yuma and San Luis, Arizona, and said his opponent, Kali Lake, is too extreme for Arizona. .
Congressman Gallego met with residents and elected officials at the Cesar Chavez Cultural Center in San Luis before heading to Yuma to meet with supporters of locally owned Cafecito, The Best Taquito, and Mr. Gee’s.
“We’re excited…I’m talking to people about water, agriculture, border security, immigration, education, etc.,” Gallego told KAWC. I will continue to do my best to vote Yuma.
Gallego’s visit comes a week after Lake visited the Yuma County border. There, she told reporters she blamed Gallego and Democrats for “securing our borders and eliminating illegal immigration.” She also accused Gallego of having “familial ties to cartels.”
“This is an insult to all Latinos,” Gallego said. “My father abandoned my family…She’s essentially saying if someone in your family is bad, you’re bad too.”
Gallego said that when Democrats worked with Republicans to craft a bipartisan border bill, Lake “outright rejected” and opposed funding for shelter and services programs. He said the bill would create more jobs, including hiring more Border Patrol agents.
“(Lake Kali) has no concept of borders,” Gallego said. “She’s been to Mar-a-Lago (President Trump’s Florida mansion) more often than she’s been to border communities.”
“She just wants border issues without solving border issues,” he said.
Gallego said Lake continues to deny losing the 2022 gubernatorial race to Katie Hobbs.
“You can’t trust someone like that to be a senator in Arizona,” he said.
