President-elect Donald Trump praised former Marvel chairman Isaac “Ike” Perlmutter for abandoning Disney over a woke agenda.
Addressing supporters at an event at Mar-a-Lago on Monday night, President Trump cited Perlmutter’s stance on keeping a woke agenda away from entertainment. “He went from a state of extreme poverty to owning Disney,” Trump said. “Then he got out of Disney because Disney woke up. He didn’t want to wake up Donald Duck, you know?” Trump said. According to Variety. Disney continues to follow the Awakening buzz, with many of its films doing well at the box office, including The Little Mermaid and the much-anticipated Awakening movie Snow White, scheduled for release on March 21, 2025. I’ve seen it fail.

Disney announced that Perlmutter would be let go in 2023 after his department was absorbed into other parts of the company as part of a sweeping cost-cutting initiative. After that, former Chairman Marvell immediately sold all of his Disney stock (approximately 25.6 million shares in total). He raised nearly $3 billion from the sale. According to The Wall Street Journal. The publication further notes that Perlmutter expects the decline in Disney stock to continue and plans to buy back many of his previously owned shares if the stock price falls below $75 per share. It was reported that
Perlmutter took control of Marvel Entertainment in the 1990s and became a major shareholder in the Walt Disney Company in 2009.
He sold Marvel Entertainment to Disney for more than $4 billion and made plans for “Black Panther” and “Captain Marvel” based on the belief that films with black or female characters were not commercially successful. He is known for feuding with Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige over production. Bog Iger, Disney’s CEO at the time, intervened and overruled Mr. Perlmutter. Iger retired from Disney in 2021.
