FACT CHECK: No, Joe Biden Did Not Endorse Donald Trump For President

According to Newsweek magazine, Biden has not endorsed Trump, but wore a pro-Trump hat as a “sign of solidarity” during an event commemorating the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. At the same event, Biden posed with a group of children, some of whom were wearing pro-Trump T-shirts, the magazine reported.

Fact check:

The X-image, which has been viewed over 100,000 times at the time of writing, claims that Biden has endorsed Trump in the election of 2024. The viral image shows Biden posing for a photo with a group of children, some of whom are wearing pro-Trump T-shirts.

This claim is false. Biden did pose for photos with children and wore a MAGA hat, but he said that his actions were not an endorsement of Trump, but rather a “gesture of solidarity” during a visit to a fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. During the same visit, Biden gave a hat to a Trump supporter who then suggested Biden wear one, according to the outlet. Newsweek backed up the claim with a statement from White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates.

“He gave his hat to a Trump supporter as a token and then the supporter suggested that in the same spirit, the president should also wear a Trump hat, which the president did wear for a short while,” Bates told the outlet.

“We need that hat,” Biden quickly added, taking a pro-Trump hat from a Trump supporter and putting it on, with the same kids Biden was pictured with in the viral X post visible in the background.
