A new poll conducted by research firm Public Opinion Strategies and co-commissioned by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and Rep. Carolyn Dobson finds that approval ratings for President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump are statistically tied in Alabama's newly drawn 2nd Congressional District, with voters overwhelmingly supporting the Republican Party due to concerns about fiscal issues and public safety.
According to the survey, Joe Biden and Donald Trump are roughly tied at 46% to 45%. National trendsAL-02 Biden's approval rating among Black voters took a major hit, dropping 22 points from 2020. The economy, inflation and crime were voters' top issues, and when voters learned about Dobson and Figures' backgrounds and where they stand on issues, Dobson led 48% to 43%.
The survey looked at President Biden's support among African-American voters in districts that were redistricted by federal court order, where the Black Voting Age Population (BVAP) is 48.7%. The poll found that Biden's support among African-Americans has declined significantly. In the 2020 election, African-American voters supported Biden by a 73-point margin, but in the 2024 rematch, that margin narrowed to 51 points, a drop of more than 20 points.
Voters surveyed are less enthusiastic about the election, with nearly half (49%) saying they are not very enthusiastic, compared to 43% saying they are more enthusiastic. This contrasts with white voters, who 60% said they were more enthusiastic, compared to just 29% saying they were not very enthusiastic.

“Small changes in the racial makeup of the electorate can have big effects here. A two-point drop in the share of African-Americans would put Donald Trump ahead of Joe Biden. Presidential election,” the report states.
Economic issues are a top priority for voters in the 2nd District. A majority of voters rate the current economic situation as “poor” and continue to struggle with rising prices. Half of voters (50%) rate the economic situation as “poor” and only 19% rate it as very good or “good.” When asked whether the worst of inflation is over, a majority (63%) disagree.
Polls show that a majority of voters trust Trump and the Republicans more than Biden and the Democrats to address these issues. When information and messages about Carolyn Dobson were presented, she led Figures among poll respondents, 48% to 43%.
Last month, Figures warned Democrats not to let their guard down. “People need to know this is a campaign, not a coronation,” Figures said.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) recently Pledged The race has attracted attention from both Democrats and Republicans to financially support Figures, and early signs are that it will be a very competitive race.
